For any who don’t know, Joe Brown was the foremost rock climber and mountaineer of his generation, and perhaps the greatest all round mountaineer ever. Indeed, he is still climbing, although now in his mid-seventies. You can read a biography of his climbing career if you click here.

In 1966 Joe opened the Llanberis shop with his wife Val. The Capel Curig shop opened a couple of years later, thus suiting the needs of climbers and hill walkers in both the Llanberis Pass and the Ogwen valley.
